    Applications taking FOREVER to install.

So here's the deal you guys, I just downgraded to an ASUS M3A78-EM motherboard (sold my ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 today, in preparation of Sandy Bridge), but after a clean install of windows, some things are taking WAY too long to install.

For example, when installing PC Tools Firewall Plus, setup took a good 30min to complete , same thing when installing Google Chrome, (in fact, setup didn't finished correctly, it said 'Installation didn't complete successfully, please try again later', but after double clicking it, it worked just fine.

And just now, I'm in the process of installing BFBC2 through Steam, (it usually takes no more than 5 minutes), It's been more than 30 min easily, ~45min.

    What could be causing this?

Things I did before/after Windows install:

    • Flashed BIOS to latest version (worked flawlessly)
    • Installed Avira AntiVir instead of avast! (wanted to give Avira another try)
    • Installed PC Tools Firewall Plus build 7 (I had build 6.0.0.88 installed before motherboard downgrade).
    • Installed every single driver (chipset, LAN, audio, video, etc)

    Thanks in advanced.

Is it slow downloading, installing, or both?

Sounds like you checked a lot of potential issues. Did you look at device manager for yellow warnings?

Once programs are installed, do they launch quickly?

Do you have two firewalls enabled? Two virus scanners?

Is the rest of your hardware the same - except for the mobo?

    Thanks for posting Lemur.

I actually found the cause for this issue.

It was the new build for PC Tools Firewall Plus. Disabling it did the trick.

Might have to change firewalls now.

    Comodo's looking pretty good.

    Thanks again.
