Windows 7: win 7 ram at 50% when idle

Yeah, but I bet most is used for caching - not for running programs/data.

That cache will be released in the event the system needs more memory. For example, in that exmaple, if a game is started that needs 2 GB of memory, the cache will be cleared enough to handle that game.
