I agree, I used to use programs that "fixed the registry" but soon found out the hard way that Windows knows what it is doing with the registry. Just leave it alone and enjoy a better computing experience.

Again:
"Registry cleaners" advertised on webpages, etc. are largely sales scams with no real genius behind them.
Free CCleaner at defaults is a genius app, one of the most highly regarded tools in the tech world for years.
Reports that CCleaner messed something up always turn out to be something else, e.g. System Mechanic in the startup list, etc. Such misinformation will be corrected here pronto as it is a slur on real genius.
Wonder if could get an update and/or clarification ?
So for XP, dont recommend scanning 'Registry' with CCleaner ?
Understand there is an Windows XP forum, but this seems to address the XP/CCleaner question also ?
Thank you for your help.
Delete them.
And yes, I have used CCleaner since before they cleaned up the name (that C was an abbreviation for a common vulgar word).
CCleaner also has a Win 7 logo certification.
The only registry cleaner with that designation.
Now if you want to listen to the scaredy-cats, then simply save the changes made (an option offered by CCleaner). You can then always restore.
People may encounter problems. The source of their problems is not and has never been the registry cleaner of CCleaner.
The fact that I take a different road and my car falls apart is not due to the road.
