Windows 7: Very poor FSX Performance in W7 64bit - will more RAM help me?

Hello friends

Please could you advice me? I play a lot of games on my system and for the most part they all run well (games like Fallout 3, Just Cause 2 etc.)

However performance in Microsoft flight simulator FSX is really poor. There is a lot of stuttering and all that sort of thing - not surprisingly in areas where there are a lot of buildings and houses. Like when flying over a town or big city the framerate drops from about 40 FPS to 8 FPS!



I have a triple-screen Eyefinity setup (1050 X 5040) which works brilliantly when I play other games. But for FSX I have to disable the two side screens and play on the middle one only

When I go to resource monitor while FSX is running it shows:

When I expand the Memory window and look for FSX.exe in the list it shows up with a "PID" (I dont know what that means!) of 1136.

My pagefile settings:
Initial size: 4593
Max size: 4593

I was thinking about increasing RAM to 6GB. Will that help in FSX performance?

what type of ram are you currently using. eg. ddr2, ddr3?

also what graphics card/cards are you using for your Eyefinity setup?

Does the problem exist with only one video output? PCI express is fast, but that much data pushed to fill that much screen real estate could be down to video memory or PCI express (or even video driver) limitations. It would be a good test to try one card and one monitor before adding or tweaking system hardware.

Yea I disabled Eyefinity and the performance on FSX is better than it is across 3 screens. But even on one screen it stutters with low frame rates.

As for other games they run fine in Eyefinity 1050 X 5040. Even Just Cause 2 which has brilliant graphics and very realistic water effects...runs so smooth. I guess I have to accept that FSX is so ancient now and runs on old code. I hope the new MS Flight does a better job. Hopefully they will create a new engine.
