"BITS" services auto starting from time to time

    hii guys,

i am facing a rather weird problem with win 7 64 bits ultimate edition

even after disabling the Back Ground Intelligent Service it keeps on restarting
automatically from time to time and hogs my bandwidth by downloading something through svhost process

i believe BITS is related to windows update so i disabled windows updates, still its restarting

can MSE be its cause and if yes how to stop this??

I'm not sure about this, but if you run Services and look at it, it might be set up for Automatic. If it is, try setting it to Manual. Some of the other members may know more about this than I do.

The real solution is to get a better internet connection. If you disable BITS you will no longer get updates for Windows. That is not good in the slightest.

    @ Frank
i have tried to put the service on manual as well as disabled, but then also its its reactivating

    @logicearth
i cannot get a better connection at this point of time (money issues), thats why i am concerned with stopping the BITS

to get win updates i can start BITS whenever i want, but whats the reason behind automatic restart of this service even after diableing win updates??

May be MSE would be causing that. Disable windows update completely and use the below tool to update MSE.
MSE Update Utility : Update Microsoft Security Essentials Without need of Windows Update
And make sure the process svchost.exe is running from C:\Windows\system32 folder.

    thanks for the reply

the ultility that you mentioned, provides MSE updates even if windows update are turned off
but in my case even after turning win updates off i can still update MSE by clicking the Update option on MSE

and yes BITS in my case is related to MSE as when i update MSE BITS gets started and gets set to Automatic(Delayed start)

is there a way to schedule updates of MSE?
