    they're very highly compressed already.

the good news is that hard drives are amazingly cheap these days. :)
The hard drive that I would want to buy, is another of the same model that I have gotten 3 lemons in a row on, and it was not cheap. Does any of your cheap 1 TB drives have SATA III and a 64MB cache?
Hi seekermeister - FYI - You can get a 2 TB 7200 rpm Western Digital (WD) Caviar Black internal drive for about $175 - Don't know whether you would consider that cheap or expensive. They work great. :):):) It has a 64 MB Cache.
That is a bit richer than I would care for. I can get another WD1002FAEX for $89.99, and I kind of like the idea of 1TB instead of 2, but I may break down and go for it anyway. I'm assuming that this is the drive that you are talking about...yes?

Yes, thats the one - it's pretty fast. It's helpful for me because I also have a 240 GB SSD, a 256 GB SSD, and a 600 GB drive and I keep mirror copies of each on the 2 TB Drive as well as on an external 3 TB Drive (dont want to get caught with "pants down") :):):) Your 1 TB drive is just like my 2 TB one except for the size.

The only reason that I don't get another 1TB like I have, is because of getting 3 lemons in a row. Since you are happy with your 2TB, obviously something is different about it other than size. Somehow, I was thinking that I had gotten all 3 drives from the same vendor, but I went back to the receipts one came from elsewhere, and one I can't find the receipt for, so I don't know. I checked my account with my primary vender, and they only had a record for one drive, but I still think I got two from them...don't know. The reason that I checked was because the WDC rep claimed that there was no problem with these drives, and that they must have been mishandled by the vendor, but I tend to doubt that if there were 3 different venders, that all 3 mishandled them.
