COM+ Applications, Catalog Error ???

Hi all,
I am new here and at a low computer knowledge level. My Problem, I have win 7 home premium, IE8, 64 bit, 6gb memory, 300GB HD, etc.

I installed symantic Ghost 15 last week but it would not back up files. In the end after about 15 hours to India it was concluded there is a problem where the COM+ Applications folder cannot be accessed and it was not a symantic issue.

If I go to "Component Services / Computers / My Computer / COM+ Applications", and try to open it I get an Error Box which says

"Catalog Error
You do not have permission to perform the requested action. If security is enabled on the System Application of the target computer make sure you are included in the appropriate roles.
OK"

I am logged on as an administrative account and I also enabled the hidden admiinistrative account within windows. I continue to receive this error message.
I do not know why I need to have access to this folder, but another computer with the same Os right beside this one will allow access. Norton says they have to have access to run ghost. Ghost has been removed and the issue is still here. I do not know if this was a problem before.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I will forsure check out different software, but I still want to resolve this folder access issue. It may come to a win 7 reinstall down the line but I would like to avoid it if possible.

Thanks, I will take a good look at that possible fix, but like you said, messing around can get you into trouble. I'll follow this up with some microsoft people again, but they we not much help first time around.

DCOMCNFG.exe takes me right back into Component Services where my original problem is with the COM+ Applications folder not being able to be accessed. I see nowhere that I can uncheck anything or a properties area within Windows 7. Unless I am missing something here I think I need to find another route.

I know this response is late, but I had the same problem and tried in vain to follow every "solution" posted from around the net. The solution is provided by Norton itself, as they provide a proprietary bat file to download and run. Here's the Symantec solution page: Error: "Snapshot error %1. One additional comment: I got C++ errors on reinstall and had to remove all C++ redistributables, then reinstall Ghost. Also, the directions do not specify, but you must completely remove Norton Ghost (don't leave backup jobs, etc, when asked during uninstall). If you don't you'll get C++ errors upon re-install even after removing the C++ installations.
