Windows Scheduled Defrag Problem
This issue is a bit complicated . I did a Repair Install to fix some problems in IE8. It fixed IE8, however, after some CClien registry cleanings, whenever I opened my Scheduled Tasks window, I got an error message ("The selected task "(0)" no longer exists. To set the current tasks click refresh…"). It turned out that this was caused by the fact that I had the file
but I didn't have any scheduled task in the window
“Task Scheduler (Local)\Task Scheduler Library\Microsoft\ Windows\Defrag”
(which must have been the fault of CClean ).
Following some advice (from another Forum), I removed the original XML file from its folder, and simply set up a defragmenter task and run it via a batch file from the Task Scheduler:
Start program “D:\Bat Files\ScheduledDefragStart.bat”
Start program “C:\Windows\System32\Defrag.exe C:”
Start program “D:\Bat Files\ScheduledDefragFinish.bat”
where the first batch file wrote my own log file (date and time) and also activated an 'Always On' power scheme, while the last batch file finished the log file (time) and activated a 'Sleep Now' power scheme.
I set up the power schemes and activated them using the 'powercfg.exe' command with the appropriate numeric identifier (powercfg /list) in the batch file (e.g. the 'Sleep Now' batch file is: C:\Windows\System32\powercfg /setactive e11694a4-9381-4b6b-9d07-b5054bc05bc1.
The XML file that my own defrag scheduled task created is similar but not exactly the same as the original XML file that came with the original installation. And this is probably the reason for the next issue: I cannot run the Windows defragmenter manually from the Control Panel anymore. I get an error message: "Disk Defragmenter was scheduled using another program...".
1. Is there a way to restore the original Windows Defragmenter (I still have the original XML file)?
2. Would another Repair Install solve this problem? (Then I probably would have to delete my defrag entry from the Task Scheduler and also the XMP file)?
I would greatly appreciate any comments/help/suggestions.
P.S. I am trying also to use "MyDefrag" (from the author of "JKDefrag") but so far it seems extremely complicated to run it via a batch file.
