Windows 7: Aero problem, please help...

Hi guys. I'm new here, and this is my first post. I wasn't sure if this belonged here or in the themes section, but after going there I thought it would fit here. Anyway, if I made a mistake with the section i'm sorry

Ok, on with the problem: I bought a new computer a week ago (ASUS N53JQ-SX145V), and in fact i'm using it to create this thread :) Anyway, after I bought it I installed the programs I had on my previous laptop and moved my personal files to this new laptop. I'm loving it, it's like 10 times faster than my previous laptop

So yesterday I installed Uniblue PowerSuite, a PC Utilities/Registry Cleaner like program to keep my Pc running smoothly. And right after I corrected the "supposed" problems my PC had, the PC rebooted and after it started again I noticed a problem: certain Aero animations were "turned off".

I managed to turn them on again, but there's still one that looks different: it's difficult to explain but when you right-click on a file, on the wallpaper, etc. that menu appears with a few choices. Usually in windows 7 aero, the right-click menu fades in instead popping out of the blue which is what happens to me now. This also happens to me when I put my cursor above files/anything and for those help baloons.

Basically my computer is incapable of using fade in/out animations
. I tried everything, from reactivating Aero to keep rebooting the PC and nothing worked.

Please help me here. Please tell me I don't have to reinstall windows 7...

Just to be clear, have you gone into system -> advanced settings -> performance settings -> adjust for best appearance

It's possible one of these applications you installed changed something in the performance features to 'improve performance' at the cost of simple effects. Anyhow, that's where the 'fade' settings are located and adjusting for best appearance should turn those settings back on.

Kratos Aurion, welcome to the Seven Forums?

If everything was working as it should before,

    I installed Uniblue PowerSuite
then the problem isn't with Windows but with whatever it was that program changed.

I tried everything, from reactivating Aero to keep rebooting the PC and nothing worked.
Did you try rolling back the changes that that program made? If not you should. If you did and it didn't fix it, then try running system restore to the last restore point before you installed it.

I tried un-doing what that piece of s*** of a program did, and it didn't work.

Actually, when I bought the PC the HD came with the option of restore points turned off I only found this out after all this happened, so restore points are not an option.

It's possible you can find something in this tutorial that will help you. It offers multiple methods for changing visual features. If the primary method doesn't work perhaps one of the alternate methods will kick it back. Visual Effects Settings - Change

Ok thank you Maguscreed, i'll try that.

In the meantime let me ask something: Isn't there a way to put Aero to it's default settings? I was asking that myself the whole time I was trying to solve this problem.
