Fix Slow Boot (Tuner Card Problem)

I have a hauppauge 2250 installed in my pc.

I have an SSD as my boot drive, and with the card unplugged the windows 7 animation shows, once it finishes playing I see the welcome screen for a split second, then I am at my desktop.

However with the card plugged in once the animation finishes playing there there is like a 10-15 second delay before I see the welcome screen.

According to a forum post I read the card load's it's firmware and whatnot which is what slows down the boot by about 10 seconds. Is there anything I can do to speed it up or have windows continue to boot while the FW and things are being loaded on the card?

I use it rarely but I dont want to go to use it and have to shutdown plug in the card and then power on.

Also, I am using the latest drivers from their website 7.9 something.

I'm not sure if there's really a solution. I have two HVR-2250 cards in my PC. I'd hate to think I'm losing 20 seconds upon bootup. It's a HTPC, which is on 24/7 so losing 20 second is OK, because I'm not turning it on and off constantly. I also think it has a lot to do with the motherboard.

You can see it's actual interaction with other startup processes and boot order by running a trace: Trace Windows 7 boot/shutdown/hibernate/standby/resume issues - MSFN

Is it possible it has software which is starting up with Windows 7 as the card loads? If so, you can remove it from startup in msconfig or delay it's Service in services.msc if it has one: Startup Programs - Change

I'm having the exact same problem, the HVR-2250 causes at least a 15sec delay in system boot as soon as I install its drivers.

I just installed a Vertex 2 in my system as my boot drive, and was enjoying the 10sec or less boot time, until I enabled this card, now my total system takes about 25sec to load once the 'Starting Windows' page posts. Yes it's not that long but it's painful when you are used to and have invested in the lightning quick performance from an SSD and one component is causing at least a 150% increase in load time.

Is there any way to delay initialization of the card until later? or any other workarounds to this type of thing? I would hate to have to give up my WMC because of this or have to tediously disable and reenable it in device manager for each reboot.

You can set the card's Service to Auto (Delayed) in Services.msc if it has one, or use Soluto to Delay it's startup. Soluto
