    Disabling ntfs compression/win 7 hp

I am interested in whether or not disabling NTFS compression In Win 7 Home Premium would noticeably improve disk data transfer rate and or wear on hard drive. My WEI is 5.9

Performance degradation from NTFS compression is generally noticable on file server related machines. Lots of I/0 to the drive. How much data processing are you doing on a daily basis?

For home users it's generally not that noticable, However, with any compression there is performance degradation to the drive, there is no way around it. Would you 'notice' the performance increase by disabling the compression?
Highly unlikely unless you process a ton of data on a daily basis.

Be aware that if you tick the Properties box to compress your OS drive, it may become unbootable if the boot files become compressed.

To start Win7 you'll then have to use the DVD or Repair CD Load Drivers mini-explorer to rightclick C>Properties to untick the box.
