    VERY SLOW Laptop...

So my moms laptop has a 1.6ghz processor and 3GB of ram. It takes her around 2-3 minutes to launch internet explorer and around 5 mins to boot to the desktop/shutdown. What are my options of speeding this thing up? I've tryed disabling the services not needed and still no improvement. I've also defragged it and cleaned up the junk on it. I also have scanned the entire computer with KIS 2011 and found NOTHING. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello there.

Have you tried a Malware scan? Malwarebytes' anti-malware is really good detecting.

    Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: Malwarebytes

Run it in safe mode with networking (F8 in BIOS before startup) and perform a full scan to discard the possibilities of malware/adware or any other threats. :)

    Post back your results.

I recently had a case like that at a friend. After mucking around with it for half a day, we decided to reinstall the whole bit. That solved it.

Yep. that's a good choice, it's what i'd do. But i want to see what can we do first before wiping the HDD and re-installing Windows 7 from scratch.
