Disk Activity is NOT accurate in Resource Monitor....not even close!

OK...I don't know what to say about this one, but it's very odd.

If I go under disk activity in resource monitor while copying a file (tried with ones that were 100MB, 2GB and in between) I will see it being copied at an extremely slow rate - usually around 5-10MB/s. However, my transfer window tells me the file copied over already at a typical fast rate. Now, the really odd thing is that I can even eject the drive (if it's external) safely and resource monitor will still be showing the file as copying at a slow pace! I've verified that I have no file corruption by using MD5 checksums.

The resource monitor can be showing this going on for a long time even with the drive disconnected! Does anyone have any idea?
