Registry Cleaner

Thank you gentlemen for your words of wisdom. I have downloaded the free version of CCleaner and on its first run, it found a whole lot of rubbish which I was able to clear out. Not being computer technically experienced or minded, I shall only be using the basic operation, running the cleaner, analyzing and deleting, that will do for me.

If I ever have any serious problems with my system, I will turn to Windows7 Forums for help because I know there an awful lot of you here who are very experienced and willing to help and for that I say "Thank You"

Yeah, I'd agree with that. I don't use it on a regular basis. I use it if there's an issue, or a failed app install, or if I remove some apps and want to make sure they are completely gone. Nero 7, for example, leaves plenty of junk in the registry when you remove it.

Yes, AOL is even worse I believe.

Ccleaner is safe to use since it creats a registry backup

I've always read good things about Ccleaner, so I don't intend on starting any debates. Anyone using JV16 Power Tools? I have been using them for several years, and have been quite satisfied. They always have the option of backing up the fixed/removed registry entries. It would be risky to not select that option! It also gives me about 4 different options of how thorough the scan is to be run, from safe to aggressive. I've found that it is good to run the registry cleaner after major upgrades or program uninstalls. That's when I find a lot of leftover junk.
