Did you try going into Services and starting Task Scheduler?

Press Winkey+R, type services.msc and press Enter or click GO.
Scroll down to Task Scheduler and double click on it.
Set the Startup type to Automatic then click on the Start button.

Hi, I'm having the exact same problem but when I follow your steps it says "The task scheduler service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs." Also, when i go to Properties, the menu that says "manual" is grayed out, so I can't change it to automatic. It was working fine a few weeks ago.

Task Scheduler being set to Manual should be okay. Manual means it will start if needed, though you should be able to change it. Is your account an Administrator?

Yes, the account is admin (as it's the only account on the computer) but it is still grayed out and I still can't turn Task Scheduler on.

I found one post that hag a .reg file for Vista. Compared it to the same area for Win 7 and they did not match so I exported

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Schedule]

You can compare it to yours or just download it, unzip it and merge it into your registry. Would be a good idea to either create a System Restore point first or backup the registry using ERUNT or export the key before merging.

This is the .reg file (zipped): scheduler7.zip

I backed up my registry then merged the .reg file and rebooted my computer but the only thing that seems to have changed is that the grayed out drop down menu says Automatic instead of Manual now (which is weird because it still isn't starting). I think I just might do a fresh reboot of Windows once I can back up my files because this isn't the only weird problem I've been having recently.. Thanks a lot for all your help!!

I am also having the same problem. Unable to run task scheduler in Windows 7 Ultimate. When I type regedit, an error message pop-up stating "The endpoint mapper database entry could not be created" even though I looged in as Administrator
