    screen saver not working

    Have just installed new desk top w/ windows 7 home premium 64bit. I am using a wireless keyboard and mouse both Microsoft. The screen saver does activate. The setting is for a blank screen. Nor does the power save seem to work. I use the factory default settings.

    I've seen some posts with the same issue but no solutions except to uninstall the power DVD software and I'm not sure I should or want to lose that feature.

    Please advise. Thanks.

    Hi Jay and welcome to Windows Seven Forums. I'm a little confused as your title is " Screen saver not working " but in your description you say your screen saver does activate. Regardless, I have my screen saver set to none and my power settings are: Dim Display-> never
    Turn off display-> 10 minutes
    Put computer to sleep-> never

    With these settings, after 10 minutes, my screen just goes blank with no screen saver. I don't know if any of this helps you or not. I hope it does. Please let me know. :)

    Hi Alfred

    Thanks for reply and sorry for typo. - My screen saver does NOT activate.

    I do not have a DIM display option. Where is yours?

    I set my put my turn off display to 1 minute and put the computer to sleep to never and screen saver to none but still no success.

    Anything else to try?

    OK. For screensaver instead of selecting none, there's a drop down menu where you can select from various screensavers. The little display screen will give you a preview of what it is when you press preview. You can then set it to how many minutes to wait until screensaver comes up. When you click settings, you can adjust things like speed and density. I just want to be sure your going to the Control Panel and selecting Personalization. Once you decide on everything, click Apply and OK.

    For the dim display, go Control Panel->Power Options. Balanced should be selected. Click on change plan settings and make the settings you want. Then click save settings and your done.
    I hope you can understand my rambling. Please let me know how it works out. :)

    Edit: Make sure your turn off display is greater than your time for screen saver (I know it's obvious but just wanted to mention it)

    Hi David,

    Did exactly as you suggested but still no screen saver. I am familiar with the screen saver option window as I used it in XP many times.

    I think I recall that reading when I was using XP that my wireless mouse and/or keyboard would interfere with the screen saver function.

    What do you think or any other suggestions?

    Hi Jay. Sorry that didn't work for you. I'm at a loss. It could be the wireless keyboard. I use a wireless mouse and have no problem so I don't think it's that. I'm sorry Jay but I can't think of anything else to try, except maybe contacting the maker of your computer or the keyboard. You could check under Control Panel -> Device Manager and see if anything pops out. Hopefully someone else here will check this post and be able to give you better advice. A lot of the people here make me seem like a pebble on the beach when it comes to technical knowledge. Best of Luck Jay. :)

    YESSSS !

    Was able to resolve screen saver problem. As with XP my wireless mouse and / or wireless keyboard were interferring with screen saver.

    Went to Microsoft site and was instructed to download updates for the mouse and keyboard:
    http://update.microsoft.com/
    Optional Hardware Update
    &
    Microsoft HID Non-User Input Data Filter

    Screen saver now works exactly as it should.

    Thanks for your help & spread the word.
