shortcuts on desktop not working help plz

hi guys can anyone help me please?

i turned my pc on this morning and noticed that one of my shortcuts to a game wasn`t working, all that would happen is i would see the blue loading circle and nothing would happen. i stopped the process in task manager and it would still be there trying to load the launcher. i would have to restart the pc.

now it is happening to all my desktop shortcuts and i don`t know what to do?

i am running malewarebytes at the moment to see if i have a virus.

    any help please?

I would suggest closing down all running applications, and then opening your browser and downloading Process Monitor. Once downloaded to a temporary folder (like C:\TEMP or C:\Users\<username>\Downloads), double-click and launch the procmon.exe to start Process Monitor - note that it will begin logging immediately. Simply double-click any desktop icon, and when it fails, go back to the Process Monitor window and click File > Save. Note the location of the file, and click the "OK" button to save the LogFile.pml file. Compress (with 7zip, winrar, winzip, whichever app you use) and upload the file to a file hosting site for one of us to download and review to see if we can make any determination as to why this might be happening.

    Hello Mark,

In addition, you might download and merge the lnk (LNK) and exe downloads in the tutorial below to see if they may be able to help after restarting the computer. They restore the default associations for these file extensions.

Default File Type Associations - Restore

    Hope this helps,

also my desktop icon started to all work after awhile yesterday, but i have just got up thismorning and they are doing the same thing again ?

ok i have just worked out how to download the ink and exe zip files but i am not. so i will try them

i have tried the lnk (LNK) and exe thing and it hasn`t worked.
i have noticed that most of my programmes are not opening either, all i see is the blue windows load circle going round even when i stop the processs in task manger it still goes round?

i have been trying to download and install winzip so i can send a zip file to you but i can not install it as nothing will start now? all i am getting is the blue windows load circle?

    please help

ok so now all my shortcuts are working again, this is reaaly odd.
it only seems to happen first thing in the morning when i turn my pc on after being off all night. thats twice it has done it now and it seems to be taking long to work each time ?

i have done a malewarebytes scan and a Spybot scan and used my antivirus scan and they all found nothing?

was hoping it would be a virus so i could just get rid of it and move on but now i just don`t know whats happening ?

i have also noticed that all my shortcuts say ink when b4 they were exe ?

    Mark,

You might see if doing a system restore (at boot if needed) using a restore point dated before you had these issues may be able to help fix this for you.
