    Restore Points - configuring

I have here a Dell Inspiron laptop which seems to make Restore Points at the correct times (Windows Updates, driver installs, on demand, etc) but when I look at the parameters in the panel System/System Protection/tab System Protection/button Config I see:
    - Turn off system protection is ticked
    - Disk space usage / Current Usage is showing 0 (zero)
    - Disk space usage / Max Usage is showing 0 (zero)

    But - I have just successfully restored a restore point ! ! !
Does this mean that Win 7 will always make a (minimum?) one, regardless of these parameters ?

Can someone explain this behavior, please ?

    Hello Topaz, :)

System Protection can be turned on or off for each hard drive. Does it show as being turned off for your Window C: drive?

    Hello Brink,
I had hoped to edit my mail before anyone replied . . .
Indeed, System Protection was showing two "hard drives":
Recovery, the OEM's recovery partition, and the standard C: drive.
I was looking at the Recovery protection which is not restored-pointed, and thus has zero-value parameters.
On closer inspection, the C: drive shows normal (non-zero) parameters.

Thanks for your reply - and sorry to waste this bandwidth.
Moral: look carefully which "drive" parameters are being displayed, (it's shown in the panel title).

You can always check for restore points on C with this command:

    vssadmin list shadows

And make sure you NEVER enable system restore for the recovery partition. That would make a mess.

No problem Topaz. I'm glad you got it sorted. :)
