sfc /scannow not working?

Went to the tutorials on this but a black screen flashes for a second and then closes.

I went to start, then typed in sfc /scannow, then right clicked on the sfc /scannow program and ran as administrator.

start>cmd>right click and run as admin> sfc /scannow (note the space between the "C" and "/")
