Disk Indexing
Anyone have a general idea of how much space this occupies? I have a large media server and wanted to index it. Has mainly video and documents/images. Any approx rule of thumb?

The link above says about 10% of the size of files indexed. That would seem to be a large price to pay.
Seems like a huge amount to me also, but it's all I could find and it's from a Microsoft web site.
So if I have a 1TB drive then the index will occupy 100GB? That doesn't seem reasonable.
Anyone else have any information on this?
The link is for Win Search 4.0 which is an add on for below. Not Win 7 though they may take the same space.
Windows Search 4.0 requires Windows Vista SP1, Windows XP SP2, Windows Server 2003 SP2, Windows Server 2008, or Windows Home Server.
This might be a help.
Start button and type in index. Go to index options and see if there is something there to help you.
The only index looking stuff I can find there is in this folder:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows\GatherLogs\SystemIndex
which has 43 items totaling 347Kb.
