1. Yes this can hurt your system.
2. open the machine and make sure all fans are running
3. if all fans are running try to re-seat the CPU heat sink and fan.
4. If overclocking undo it. Reset BIOS back to defaults.

open the case up, and see if the cpu fan is spinning.

it's very dangerous to your cpu - it will get hot very quickly.

take it to the person or shop where you bought it from.

*edit* oops someone else got there first!

If it is a laptop, it likely needs to be taken apart cleaned out and have new thermal paste applied.

It's a bit of a process and you may need someone to handle the cleaning for you.
The tiny air spaces in laptops get clogged up regularly, it's also possible the fan is not working at all.

system specs seem to point to a desktop type machine rather than a laptop - well done for filling them out, Jasdeep.

but good info anyway, Maguscreed

hmm... on a desktop. I'm guessing the cpu fan and heatsink need replacing then.
Unless it's the northbridge in which case he probably needs a new mobo.

Its easy to open the side of the case and see if the fans are spinning. As for re-seating the CPU heat sink and fan this could be a tricky process due to motherboard and fan setup. I would recommend taking it to a local repair shop if your not sure on that one.

Ever since I installed Win 7 Home Premium whenever I re-boot or wake the system from sleep, it takes several minutes for everything to work smoothly. For instance, when I click on the icon to open my email and web browser, nothing happens for about 20-30 seconds, and then the program launches. ...

system is starting to smell like a toaster.
Since I installed 7, I've noticed my computer is starting to smell hot like a toaster. I'm starting to become concerned. I've checked all my fans and temps using speedfan. My CPU temps are all way below danger levels(hottest core seems to max around 40), my GPU runs kinda hot at default fan speed,...
