The problem you have is not Windows. It is this application you are using. It is easier to solve your problem if you stop looking in the wrong place. The application is the problem fix it, not Windows.
Trying to use a means to force an application to release memory is only a temporary bandage. It will continue to consume and consume forcing you to ever repeat the same process over and over again. Fix the application and you will not have this problem.

The program is VNC Viewer. I use it to remotely control my iPod from my laptop, along with Auto Mouse to continually click in one spot. I am playing a time-based game and I set auto mouse to click every 20 seconds.
A friend of mine does the same thing with Macro, and he leaves his laptop (Windows XP) on for days upon days. When I use VNC with auto mouse, my laptop can only stay on for about 4 or 5 hours before blue screening.

My question now is, is this harmful in any way if I set it to clear every 5 minutes? Also, which would I check if I am running this misbehaving program? The trim proccesses or clear system cache? I am guessing the cache because it keeps building up.
Also, I can expand my memory from 4gb to 8gb. Is it worth the upgrade?
Sorry, just saw this. I am not aware of any possible harm. As I wrote, these are "quick and dirty" fixes for misbehaving programs. The only real fix is to get the software fixed. Clear whatever keeps the program running that you want to keep running. A case of trial and error.
