whats the best way to keep your cpu cool, without a cpu cooler,
i just have regular p.o.s slow laptop. it goes to 75% cpu and the fan gets louder,
its been this way ever since the new windows 7 service pack update,
ok - it seems that there are two issues here:
1 - why is your cpu 'going to 75%' - does it stay at 75% for long? hit ctrl-alt-delete and start up task manager to see which programs/processes are making your cpu work.
2 - closely inspect the case of your laptop, looking for air intake vents/slots. make sure they aren't blocked by any rubbish such as hair/fluff/crud/whatever. if so, carefully clean then, making sure that any rubbish falls out, rather than in.
i do believe there could be some blockage, just because my room is very dusty,
ummm it used to idle at 0% but after the windows 7 service pack update it stays at random high numbers, 75% being the average.
have you looked in task manager to see what's 'eating' your cpu?
go to the processes tab, click on the 'cpu' column, and that should sort the list so the busiest processes are at top.
im at school right now, but i can name a few,
svchost, hptoaster, QPservice, disnoted,
hp services are running, ive disabled absolutely everything that i could have downloaded that would make it slow down, i have no programs that pop up in my action menu, its only like 56 processes, most of em are hp services
the important information is which of the processes is using the cpu the most - not how many you've got running.
56 is quite a lot as well - i wonder how many of them are doing anything useful. as you can see i've got 39 processes running, and that's with several programs open. it's a lot lower than that just after boot.
Keeping your system dust free is extremely important if you want to keep it as cool as you can. It's best to do regular maintenance cleaning, which could be any/all of the following:
1. The use of 'compressed air'
2. The use of a special battery-powered handheld vacuum, especially designed for computers. (But do NOT use a regular, plugged-in vacuum cleaner, as that could seriously damage your system!!!) You can even tape a straw to the end of your vacuum - it will drastically increase the sucking power, and give you more control/detail for the tight spaces.
Vents: Be sure to vacuum them. Get the wand and put it on the vent and create a seal with your hand around it and just suck the heck out of it. Also, block the other exhaust vent to create a vacuum inside to make sure you get everything out of there.
If you're a computer guru and have the ability to remove the back to actually get inside and clean it, even better.
3. The use of microfiber dusters that make dust stick to them.
Also, it helps to keep your system elevated slightly so that the vents aren't blocked while it's in use.

This sounds like a typical overloaded factory preinstall from HP, which is the worst when it comes to larding sponsors bloatware onto the machine.
