Imperfect1 is completely correct here. My Asus G60JX has the Nvidia GeForce GTS 360M graphics card, that would reach temperatures of 250*- 270*! On Tuesday, I opened it up, to find that the heat sync was completely clogged. So, half a can of compressed air and a scallop later, any my computer runs at 110* now! Its awesome...

A laptop cooler stand doesn't hurt either. You can either get the active ones that have fans that are either DC or battery powered, or one like I have, a passive cooler stand that just sets your laptop at a slightly raked angle with holes drilled in the bottom for air flow.

yes, and even though the op has gone, while we're talking about keeping laptops cool:

if you have your laptop in bed with you, be careful not to let it snuggle down into the covers, thereby muffling up the fan vents.

rest it on a book or something, if you haven't got a proper stand.

Yes this is true, when I use mine in bed, I always use a laptop stand to keep it propped up.
