I currently use MSE but i plan to uninstall that and install NOD32 as i use it on my old desktop and I prefer it, hopefully it will prove better than MSE, i'll let you know ow i get on.

Yes, Registry Cleaners or Booster sales scam programs have no genius behind them (like CCleaner) and cause problems with Win7 we see all the time.
Win7 is already optimized as lean as can be and will not tolerate compound tweaking or messing with it's registry beyond removing inactive shells as CCleaner does.
Uninstall it and try to System Restore before you installed the crapware.
Check the logs, run SFC or a Repair Install if necessary as a last resort before clean reinstalling: troubleshooting steps

I was about to say the same as Greg. All those registry programs are for the birds. Get rid of them asap. And if you really want to boost your boot time, there is no better way than putting the OS on an SSD. Here is what Soluto tells me for my Vertex2 - that is 16 seconds if my math is right:

Okay thanks for all the help and advice. I've got boot down to 42 seconds which i personally am rather pleased with :) and yes i was actually considering an SSD, i may well invest in one but not sure yet as i'm rather happy with 42 seconds. I also have got rid of my registry cleaner and installed CCleaner which appears to be doing a good job, so thanks to everyone for the assistance,
