Windows 7 suddenly running slow

Hey guys. I'm new to this place and was hoping you could help me with a problem. All of a sudden on my Windows 7 ultimate 64bit, my Windows started to run so slow to the point where I can basically not even use it. All the stats show my RAM registering fine(4gb) and I just can't find what the problem will be.

In its normal mode, it will take around 20min just to get to the front screen and is super slow when it comes to opening programs aswell.

It seems to run safe mode fine though, with speeds that I am used to.

So do you guys have any idea what my problem could be? What I should do? I basically would be able to run any programs on my desktop either if that's a suggestion, thanks!

Hello Notoriousreid, welcome to Seven Forums!

Please try to give us more info on your system as well.
Have you changed anything before you noted the slow-down? I.e. new software, bios, hardware drivers, etc. Have you smelled smoke or something "hot"? If you have a desktop, power it off, pull the power plug after you touch a metal case part to get rid of static. Use some canned air and blow out any dust and small animals which <may> be obstructing airflow.
If you are skilled enough, try reseating any PCIe, PCI cards, and your memory modules.
Hope this helps.

EDIT: Do you have security installed such as anti-virus, firewall, crap cleaner, and spam filter? If not try some freebies:
Microsoft Security Essentials
CCleaner
AVG Free Anti Virus only

You may also try to Boot to the Advanced Boot Options and try "Last known good configuration".
Running a virus scan in safe mode sometimes works better with only minimal drivers running.

I agree with what the others have already said but your case is like a very common symptom of conflicting antivirus software. If you have two antivirus software installed at the same time and are both set to start automatically when you open the computer, the startup usually becomes very slow so might as well remove one of the two antivirus software and just leave one installed and running at once.

You can also try to perform a clean boot:

Good luck.
