    Diskeeper 2011 automatic mode

    Hi All,

Just shifted to win7 64 bit and this is my first post to the forum. It concerns Diskeeper 2011 Premiere Pro with Hyperfast which I am trialling on my computer.

And it is a really BASIC question. It concerns 'automatic mode'. Do you have to have Diskeeper open to have this mode run, or does it run even when you exit Diskeeper?
I have noticed that even when I exit Diskeeper I can see 'Dkjservice.exe' running in the task manager, so maybe this answers the question. But I though I would check in here to be sure whether this exe is actually doing the automatic defraging.

    thanks for any answers

Check the Task scheduler for the Admin Account. If you find an entry there for Diskeeper then it will work even if you exit the program. That's why the service is permanently running.

I just wonder why you try a different Defragger. Aren't you satisfied with the build in one that comes with Se7en or are you just curious ?

Mine is set to automatically defrag every Wednesday night (or so) and it seems to work just fine

I guess I've always relied on supplementary programs with Windows. I don't use their firewall or antivirus, but rather 3rd party programs and I suppose I'm applying the same logic to windows built in defrager.

Yes. It run automatically. You can also turn off Diskeeper during certain hours of the day in automatic mode.

I understand where you 're coming from and it certainly held true for XP.
But Windows seven is more than just an improved XP so if you're not happy with your trial..just try the build in solution. I've read about cases where a 3rd party defragger messed up a W7 because as an originally for Win XP developed program, the external defragger couldn't deal with junctions correctly IIRC.
So make sure your back up is a recent one
BTW a Back up program and a browser are about the only external programs I use over build in stuff but that's just me.

Yes, Diskeeper automatically defrags in the background all the time, unless you stop DKService.exe process or disable automatic defrag through the UI.
