Laptop COMPLETELY dies before low battery level??

My laptop dies if I am on the battery and the battery percent gets between 25-40% then it will just completely shut off. It never used to do this for the first 8 months i've owned it. Now it does it every time I'm on the battery. Any ideas?

also, right before this started happening I was getting GREAT battery life out of my battery, so I don't personally think the battery has gone bad, however you may feel different!

Batteries for laptops typically only last about 1 year before their capacity starts to dwindle. Since you are only 8 months old, I would call whomever made the laptop and see if they will warranty it for you. What you are describing is exactly what happens when the battery loses it's ability to hold a charge. From 40-0 in a flash.

Depends on the type of battery you have (chemical composition) but it is possible that your battery has developed a "memory". This usually happens when the battery is not fully discharged before charging, but only really holds true for Ni-Cad batteries. LiIon batteries however are happy to be discharged down to 70% and then charged again, they don't really develop a memory. Odds are if your laptop is pretty new you have a LiIon battery and it shouldn't be doing this. You might have a defective battery. Like pparks1 said, see if you're under warranty.
