Windows RAM problem double usage

Hey,

Ive got a problem because it appears that something is wrong with my windows configuration. When i check my processes it shows me that my programs are using about 600MB RAM which is about 15-16% of my total ram got 4GB but it shows taht im using 34% so double. What is the problem? Could you help me? Thanks.

That's normal, the information there isn't perfectly accurate and doesn't account for all of the memory that's being used. But those numbers are absolutely normal for a healthy 4GB system.

Task Manager counts differently, the rest of the memory is being reserved for several purposes. Hardware needs some, and the OS will fetch and reserve for performance.

That's keeping it real basic and simple. If you want a more expert explanation, you should be able to find tons of posts regarding this just by searching. It's been discussed here many many times, in great detail.

The problem is it was good before i reinstalled system to an SSD drive. I think i might change something is windows settings. When i open 1 game it uses about 1-1.5GB RAM and windows is popping that im short on RAM and i should close the game because it shows that im using about 90% RAM which is not true. IMO sometrhing is wrong was good before. I think i might change something during ssd optimization which i did manually using some forums.

Well that's certainly a problem.

Could you explain in detail exactly what you did, and when this started.

One thing I considered while reading this....
Did you hit the button that says: "SHOW PROCESSES FROM ALL USERS"?

Yes ofc. Here is how it looks.

ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting

about 40% memory use which is about 1.6GB on the image you can see that i only use about 800MB. It counts double.

I can tell you from experience, the amount of time it can take to diagnose this probably won't be worth it. Prime candidate for format/reinstall of Windows.

If you knew what you did in the registry, it'd be different. And since you don't know enough to know what did to cause this, you're much better off saving yourself the potential extreme frustrating and just starting over fresh.

If you need assistance backing up and restoring data, or anything else, reply with details on what you need to do, and what hardware you have available, such as external hard drives or a BD-Writer.

For future reference, Windows 7 is pretty solid on its own, I don't recommend registry teaks at all, for anything, not since the XP days and even then "only" for users who could manage the registry properly, backing it up and knowing what not to do, more than anything.
