    Welcome
Very easy download speedfan. It is one of many software that gives temp reading.

Biggest problem with laptops is in their name. You stick it on top of your lap and 90% of the time you'll be blocking the cooling intakes.

I find SIW very good in providing a range of sensor outputs
inc. HDD and CPU core temps.

Until you get a cooling pad, slightly raising the laptop from the table provides much better air flow to any underside vents.

I use a gadget on my tower and on my other partition here, called All CPU Meter and Core Temp. You can find there at Windows Live Gallery
It does the job for me, and it keeps my desktop clean. I feel your pain too BTW - I have a Presario V6000 (6120UA) here and it gets pretty warm!
