My 7,200 RPM Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB in my desktop gets a 5.9, and it was my understanding that this was one of the fasted spinners. Then I just got a laptop with a 500GB spinner that runs at 5,400, and it also gets a 5.9....so I don't know what to believe anymore....lol.
What I posted concerned laptops only.

Remember lappys only have 1.8in. or 2.5in spinners not 3.5in.
There is a big performance difference between 1.8, 2.5 and 3.5 spinners.

Many 5400rpm 3.5in. desktop spinners perform as well as or better than 7200rpm 2.5in laptop spinner.

Also the older lappys may be running SATA 1.5 and newer laptops can be running SATA 6.0Gb/s
    Chipset can effect speeds.

WEI is not a great benchmark. HD Tune is a much better utility for testing actual read/write speed on spinners.

EDIT: 1.8 inch spinners are common in laptops also. These are more likely to have 4.9 WEI scores.

Here is mine. My system was built in 2007 and has had nothing added to it. Except for a Wireless Card and Replacement DVD-RW and new Blu-Ray drive.

    Good marks.

Thanks, it's not a bad system to say it's a 5 year old Dell. Although the case is a stupid design!

I realize WEI isn't the be-all and end-all, but it's fascinating to me that my on-board graphics on my laptop rate higher than the dedicated card on my desktop.
    Laptop....

    And desktop.....

Either one can do everything I need it to do, so I'm not stressing over it or planning to buy a new card for the desktop.

I'm just curious as to the why. I know the 9400GT is old, and the laptop is new, so I'm guessing that the difference must be speed related, since the 9400GT has more dedicated memory and total memory available. Am I right, or totally off base?

Yes Randy More graphics memory will help the WEI go a bit higher. If it is GDDR5 it is better than DDR2 or DDR3 memory on the card.

I'm thinking about upgrading my graphics card a little in my desktop. what do you guys think of this?

    Newegg.com - ASUS EAH6570/DI/1GD3(LP) Radeon HD 6570 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card
The card has some good solid reviews. with your RAM, SSD, and 980BE CPU if your budget allows I would look at something with GDDR5 graphics memory though. Otherwise this would be a good upgrade mate!

    Meanwhile... OC at 4.6GHz

    Attachment 213681
Nice OC! I Wish I Could Get Mine Stable @ 4.4 GHz, but I don't think it's possible for my setup. Also I'll Look Into the DDR5 Cards, I know you're right about that
