    sfc/scannow could not start - W7 - Observation

I recently tried to run sf/scannow and got the following message "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service "

I am using W7 but following an article in one of the 'compuer tips' mags had added a program which loads the Vista Start Menu instead of W7 start menu (the Menu is much nicer than the standard W7 Start Menu).

I found that trying to run sf/scannow through the 'Vista' start menu (accessories....) did not work.

Once I switched off the 'Vista' start menu and ran sf/scannow from the regular start menu for W7 - it started straight away no problems.

Just an observation - I guess this was a compatibility issue or something - I haven't had any other problems with the 'Vista' start menu in W7 but I now have a 'heads-up' (if I decide to keep the Vista start Menu) for one of the places to look if something else won't work properly.

    Hello.

Booting the PC to an sfc /scan may work, though I see you found a solution.

SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot

    Thanks Bare Foot Kid,

I was running out of ideas so this one would have been timely if I had not got it sorted.

    Thanks for the prompt response.
