    Tweaking Windows 7?

hey guys. I have windows 7 on my laptop and I have been using different utilities such as ccleaner, vopt9 , glary utilities, tuneup utilities, auslogics boostspeed e.t.c But the performance gains are very little and i think that they actually slowed down my pc.

So i want to know what do you guys do to keep ur pcs running well?

Give the machine enough memory to breathe, keep the disk defragmented (or run with an SSD), and that's about it. Win7 handles keeping things running just fine on it's own, otherwise.

Let Windows take care of Windows, most all of those progs/apps you list do more harm than good, have a look at the information presented in these tutorials linked below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

    • i'm careful with what i download and install
    • i don't do too much tweaking (7 doesn't really need it compared to xp)
    • i don't have loads of start-up programs spamming my notification area - i generally only run programs as and when i need them
    • i manually run windows update every couple of weeks or so
    • i keep my av software updated
    • i keep my data (and os image) backed up to an external drive, and important stuff up on the cloud too
    • i don't let other people use my pc
    • i keep all my air vents free of dust and fluff
    • i try to use quality hardware and software
