    black screen

After I click my logon icon the screen becomes totally black except for the cursor for 20 - 30 seconds then my desktop shows up. If I boot in safe mode the desktop opens almost immediately. The black screen seems to be getting longer. Any ideas?

usually that long space there is an indication that a item you have in startup is taking more time to load than it should.
I have no ideal what your technical knowledge level is.

    Are you familiar with msconfig?
The easiest way to check this would just be to untick everything in the startup tab in msconfig, and see if the black either decreases noticiably in time displayed or goes away all together.

    black screen

I went to msconfig and used selective startup. With all the startup items disabled there is still a very long black screen. When I disable "services" the black screen goes away, with or without the startup disabled. Should I start at the top and disable services maybe in groups of ten until I find out what it is or do you have an idea which one?

Wish you hadn't done that. Services are much more complex than startup stuff.
You can't just start randomly disabling services and expect the computer to function properly.
Startup items can be safely played around with, services are an entirely different story though.

    black screen

OK - my bad. I am back in normal startup with all startup items and all services enabled. I got the long black screen when I logged on again. Now what?

Well apparently you do have a problem with a service, we just need to figure out which one.

Could you go ahead and follow these instructions. https://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html
A copy of the event log may help me point it out for you.

    black screen

I took your advice and downloaded crappy pc no more. I got rid of a bunch of stuff I haven't used in forever. After the program finished removing all the junk, I rebooted and do not have the black screen after I click the logon button. I don't know what was causing the slow logon but it is gone. I really appreciate your help and knowledge. Thank You

Yeah, I figured it was some garbage software the manufacturer had put on there.
That's why I pointed to that app. I don't recommend it much but in some circumstances it saves a bunch of trouble.
