    one month to complete chkdsk

    Little back story.

Long story short, my wife's laptop got very hot and crashed and now fails to boot.

I knew it was a HDD problem when the bios did not recognize the drive. I cooled off the laptop and not the drive is found but windows will not boot and told me to use the win 7 disk to repair. Used the disk and it took 14 hours to finish. I rebooted and got the same error. I then booted back into the win 7 disk and ran a chkdsk /f C: it finished within 1 minuet with no errors. Laptop still wont boot.

I pulled her HDD and put it in my desktop. When my computer boots with drive attacked it takes 10x longer, when i do anything with drive attacked computer slows down. Disk management crashes with drive attached. This all stops if i pull the sata cable.

I started disk management before i attached the drive and it seemed to kind of work. The drive had no drive letter and was showing RAW (should be NTFS). I assigned it a drive letter and then ran a chkdsk /f on it. chkdsk had to fix the MTF with the MTF mirror.

Now for what i am posting about it had taken 5 minutes to complete 20 files on a drive with 170240 files. That will be ruffly 29.5 days worth of time to complete. I am now on file 48 and have gotten 8 unreadable segments.

Is there anyway to salvage this HDD?

Check the hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostic tools.

Sounds like that bit is ready for the bin. I would buy a new one. They cost pennies.
