Save as in downloads does not work

Today I tried some tweaks to make my new win 7 laptop a bit faster. According to som tech advice I stopped some services and changed some settings.
Now when I try to download a program, the "save as" option does not do anything anymore. I have to use the "save" option and the transfer the downloaded file manualy to where I want it.
I have looked up the issue in the forum and there was an advice to do an sfc /scannow. I did it but to no avail, nothing wrong. I suspect that I switched off a service that is used by the option, but which one is it?

Put it all back as it was and watch who you listen to in future.

I hoped to learn something more. The source was Techrepublic. I have no doubt this is a valuable source but perhaps my abilities to use it are not sufficient.
I had set a restore point but hoped I could avoid undoing everything.

Hello mate, my apologies for being flip about this.

Most that have a great understanding of Windows 7 realizes that it does not need any tweaking at all and even the Black Viper site is rapidly becoming passé and outdated.

Just use the restore point and let Windows 7 manage Windows 7 and there will be no issues and you will have the leanest Windows available; have a look at these tutorial linked below.

    Hello there,

You could use this tool Tweak Windows Services with SMART Utility : HomePage | The Windows Club and restore it to default settings. If not see if you can do a System Restore
