    New PC, but running Slow?

Hey, I just got a new PC, my OLD specs are uploaded to my profile so you can see the comparison, and my rough current specs are:

    Intel i5 760 2.8ghz
    4GB DDR3 Corsair 1600mhz RAM
    CORSAIR CMPSU-400CXUK Silent PSU
    Nvidia GTS250
    Asrock P55 M Pro SKT-1156 motherboard
    500GB SATA II Hard Drive

The PC should out perform my old one right

Ah also, while I was in the BIOS, I noticed the RAM said 667 MHZ / 1333 MHZ or something? Should it say this or 1600mhz?
First off, I noticed the clean install was somewhat slower than it was on my old PC

Then when I got onto Windows, installation of Programs appeared to be quite slow, and the PC tends to hang a bit..

Any ideas on what could be the cause?

What the system is showing is correct. If you look at the product information under Memory Specification on that CPU (Intel® Core), the default supported RAM speeds are 1066/1333. Your RAM is running with an effective FSB speed of 667Mhz..which doubled (for double data rate) is 1,333Mhz. In order to get full 1600mhz out of your RAM, you will have to overclock your CPU. Otherwise, you simply bought RAM that can go faster than your CPU can go...without pushing your CPU.

I'd say make sure you have latest BIOS updates, and drives installed.

If you just got a new computer, not custom, it probably has a bunch of junk installed on it. First, uninstall your anti-virus program and install MSE. Take a look at MSCONG at see what is being run at startup. Do not play around by unchecking anything, but if you see a program you do not need, you can uninstall it from Control Manager. Check your bios to see if you computer first loads from the HD, and that it's set for fast boot.

    Better yet, wipe and reinstall

You said you did a clean installation.

Since that went slow, you may want to test your hard drive. See here: HD Diagnostic

Did you build the machine yourself? If so, make sure you plugged the CPU fan in.

Hey people, thanks for the replies

The computer was put together by a friend of mine, yes the CPU fan is in

My hard drive passed the test, PC is at 0%-4%(MAX) at idle, and 31% Physical Memory Used

I can't really seem to find any reason why I should be receiving problems.. :S

I have MSE installed as my anti virus too, and basically no other programs

    Hi Jason,

As Lb asked, how exactly is it slow?

As mentioned your RAM is fine where it's at, you can tune it or give your CPU a slight OC to bring RAM up to 1600 MHz, leave it there until you get this 'Slow' issue resolved.

What installation media are you using?
Original MS DVD, MS download put on a DVD or USB stick, or?

If not an original MS DVD you might have some corruption when you burned it to DVD or transferred to USB stick.
Not saying the MS original DVD can't be faulty, but it's very rare.

Clean install, so the HDD was formatted, right?

Hey, by slow, I mean it hangs quite a bit, and when I open programs they take a lot longer than usual to open, I remember with my older computer, everything used to open almost instantly, especially after a clean install, but now, if I hover over the start button or even click it, it takes around 2-4 seconds to actually bring up the menu.

I installed using an OEM disk of Windows 7

Also, when I started it up I got a message saying "reboot and select proper boot device" and Windows wouldn't load, I fiddled around with the boot devices and I got it to boot

Yeah I formatted the hard drive via the Windows installation disk

I have to disagree about running msconfig. I would uncheck everything except for your anti-virus software, spyware remover and personal firewall if you have one.

Could you provide a screenshot of Disk Management?

Go to Start > Run, and type diskmgmt.msc and expand the Window so we can see everything.
