    All Programs Are 'NOT RESPONDING'

    Hello and Thanks in advance,

I did not search within this site because the situation i'm in does not make it practical to do so.

I have a relatively new laptop, HP Pavilion dv7, and the past week or so I get a recurring 'NOT RESPONDING' message on any program I have open or try and use. It spins for about 20 to 30 sec's, sometimes longer and then recovers.

On a normal day I have my Outlook open with 1 or 2 windows open for messaging, Word, Excel x 2 or 3 spr. sheets, Msngr, and 1 or 2 web pages on IE. I am also on our network for file access & storage at either of the 2 offices I work out of. Out of all these programs, only Outlook will occasionally actually stop working, shut down then restart.

On any given program mentioned above I get that dreaded 'NOT RESP.' and so far, it's occurred 3x while writing this message.

I've cut down the startup items and that appeared to have helped for a bit, but then returned to the normal pauses. I've also updated everything I could possibly think of and the only update I haven't installed is SP-1 for the 32-bit system since I am on a 64-bit system.

Our IT guy doesn't seem to be able to figure it out. Any help is very much appreciated.

Sounds like a corruption or dll issue.

Have you tried a secure file check on the machine?

    Let's try this:

download, install and run CCLeaner which is free (link in my sig).

After running, then carry out following:
LIST OF STARTUP PROGRAMS USING CCLEANER

CCleaner | Tasks icon | Startup tab | click on Save to text file button (bottom right side)

Using the PAPER CLIP icon in the top panel of a Message Reply window, attach the .txt file generated by CCleaner.

What anti-virus software are you using?

    What firewall are you using?

    Thanks karlssnooks.

    | MSCONFIG | ENTER | STARTUP tab |
    uncheck all except for following:
    SynTPEnh %ProgramFiles%\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe
    IntelliPoint "c:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliPoint\ipoint.exe"

    RESTART YOUR COMPUTER.

You will get a much more responsive system if you uninstall NORTON.

download, install, and use the best free anti-virus available to mankind, namely, Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). Link in my sig.

This is the only antivirus I use or recommend.

Hit the RUN button. In other words, let CCleaner clean.
