All 40 empty folders had been deleted one hour ago.
In case I have not been clear on my original question .....

My interest is not what to do with them.
My interest is why and how they were created.

    Thank you.
In my case it is Windows Live Mail when in syncs with the mail server. I just delete them when ther are enough tom annoy me.

These folders are created by Windows Live Mail/Messenger everyday when you first open the program(or at least thats the cause on my system). If you use WLM check the folders and there will usually be one every day. They are perfectly safe to delete but if unsure put then in a folder elsewhere or leave in your recycle bin for a few days. There is another post which I cant find at present with more information in.
    Will keep looking

Here it is Strange folders in AppData/Local

WL Messenger hypothesis had already been suggested to me in this thread. It did not apply to my computer.
Neither does starting WL Mail initiate an empty folder under Local. I closed all programs > shut down computer > restart computer > open WLM > no empty folder.

I am losing interest in this issue. I'll let it slide. I'll just delete it as it shows up. No big deal.

    Thank you for your input.

    Hello

I raised this issue some time ago...

    Strange empty Folders?

In my case it is nothing to do with Messenger as I have never used it

Someone did suggest it was to do with Windows Updates which is more likely

I have not yet done anything with mine

I now have over one hundred!

Delete them. No harm will be done to your computer.

As to Windows Updates speculation, I have fact to indicate otherwise.

I have an empty folder today - 23/07/2011, 9:52 am EST
My last update is on - 22/07/2011

I can't be certain but I think Windows checks for Updates daily -even if you have Auto Update turned off

Do you have wuaudt.exe running as a Process?
