    having problems waking up laptop...

Just installed win 7 ult 64. dell inspiron 1520.

    A) Set power setting to sleep when plugged in (actually battery too)... But it's shutting down or hibernating I think.

A1)Why is it powering- down/hibernating when I set power settings to SLEEP?
    And how do I correct?
    * If I move mouse or hit key nothing, Have to tap power button to get back on...
It does go right to password log-on rather than having to boot (is this behavior a description of hibernated computer?)

    B) Will the computer wake up if it was actually sleeping rather than whatever its actually doing?
Is there a way to make it wake up at when these programs need to run?
    - Is this possible with sleep, but not hibernate (or can I get it to wake from hibernate, too?

    THANKS

Update your GPU drivers (do a clean install): http://www.geforce.com/#/Drivers/Results/33531

Restart when finished updating. Set your preferred power plan settings. Should work...

First build of windows 7 had issues with waking up the computer... Run windows update and you should be ok.

I've already done both of those steps... I've been moved into clean install for about a week now.
    ran win update
    installed latest nvidia drivers

Check the "close lid" funtion through power settings. Your 'close lid' could be hibernating the laptop.

not closing lid. just leaving idle plugged in open.
i just need to be able to let scheduled tasks run at night after laptop has entered idle-induced sleep or whatever.

i did do win updates and even reinstalled (clean) nvidia drivers..

what scheduled tasks are you running? Have you set your NIC to wake on lan through the power settings on the adapter?

    i don't usually have lan plugged-in - wireless.
i've had back up scheduled as well as several other programs to do their things; ie norton scan, malwarebytes, ccleaner...

but the laptop is going to some state other than sleep that it can't wake up from.
the power light goes off and is cool to touch (this thing is never cool when on!)

*** From researching this online, though i suck at searching
it seems to be an oem dell issue, specific to my dell inspiron 1520...
I recently just did clean install of win7 ult 64, which drivers were not supported, though I found some blogs that had dell supported drivers from similar model sharing hardware...

    * I do recall having similar/same issue w/ vista 32 where the laptop would not wakeup.
Have read about problem being related to wireless mouse, with usb adapter.
Just yesterday for some unforeseen reason one of my usb device portbecame unrecognizable, though i tested them all and they all seem to still be working...

Sorry if typos, can't really see outside too much glare!

    thanks

i have that same laptop... i am running 32bit version of 7 cause when i tried 64bit of 7 it gave me that same issue... as some drivers were causing the issue.... that laptop can only take 4gigs of ram... so was not worth the hassle of 64bit on it . so like i say i went back to 32bit and since then have had no issues with laptop. hope that helps....
