    AMD 890FX Southbridge Driver

I noticed that AMD released a new SB driver (v11.7) on 7-27-11, which I'm pretty sure that I need, but I wanted to check against what is already installed. However, I find nothing in the Device Manager that looks like it...where do I look?

Download System Information for Windows (SIW).
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and download SIW Without Installer (English-Only).
From the location you saved it, run siw.exe (no installation required).

Click on Drivers under Software. Every driver on the computer is listed there. All you have to do is find the one related to SB

The more that I read, the more confused that I get. SIW does show 6 AMD items listed, but none look exactly as I would expect a southbridge driver to look. I went ahead and started to install what I thought was a southbridge driver from AMD, but all that did was to open a wizard to install an ATI video driver, and I have Nvidia, so naturally I abort that. I Googled a Wikipedia article:

AMD 700 chipset series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That even though it is older than my motherboard, I thought that it would be helpful to me, but it confused me even more, because in part of it, it spoke of graphics drivers, and in part, more conventional storage controller driver. At this point, I don't know what is what.

Why do you believe that you need this new driver? On my Windows 7 pc's, I generally install the OS and it comes with 95% of the drivers. i install anything that is broken in the Device Manager and install my video driver and that's about it. From there on out, I pretty much just leave it alone.

Without going into a bunch of details which I have covered in other threads, I have been having problems getting my system to function properly, ever since I installed this new motherboard, RAM and CPU. I do not know that the new driver would solve anything, but I'm trying what ever that I can think of. After further Googling, I'm beginning to get the impression that the ATI Catalyst driver also controls the storage controllers. If that is so, it would explain a lot, because I never installed the Catalyst driver. If I did, would it mess up my Nvidia card or driver?
