S3 sleep (suspend to RAM) not working

Hello everyone,

powercfg /a tells me that s3 sleep is not available, which is bullshit, considdering Linux does suspend to RAM and turns of my fans.

Now I do know that Microsoft ****s up ACPI motherboard tables with their BIOS assembler that motherboard manufacturors use now, but that's not going to make me spend +-$100 to get my case to STFU by rebuying a CPU cooler+GPU cooler+two case fans.

Is there a way to make NT6.1 work with s3 sleep, or is the only solution going back to Linux? /rant

Thanks in advance,
-AC0

Hi,

Can you check to see whether the Hybrid Sleep option is On, as shown here?

You might find this tutorial useful too :

Hibernate - Enable or Disable

Hey,

Thanks for the fast reply

I don't even have that option listed, only sleep after, Hibernate after and Allow wake timers. I do have the options Sleep and Hibernate in the start menu, but the problem is that sleep doesn't realy sleep as deeply as I want.

Does that tutorial fix that missing option somewhere? I tried running 'powercfg /h on' in the cmd running with admin rights, but nothing appeared to have changed.

Hi,

I seem to recall that this could be related somehow to the size or existence of the hiberfile. Give me a few minutes to get my facts sorted, and we'll see if we can get to the bottom of this.

Bah! I must be geting old...the solution is on the tip of my tongue, if I recall correctly......but I just can't quite remember!

Lets try this:

Can you run:
powercfg -energy

It may take some time to run, but produces a report stored in C:\Windows\system32\energy-report.html

If you post the contents of the HTML file here, I'll ask cluberti (expert in this area) to have a look at this for you.

I couldn't include the HTML content in this post (might be good) so I renamed it to *.txt.

See attachment.

I'm also seeing MWAGENT.exe, which is wierd, considdering I gave eScan the boot when I discovered 'Microsoft Security Essentials'. That Windows security center thing 'advised' eScan to me when it didn't find a virus scanner (which I didn't have).

PS: MWAGENT.exe also doesn't appear under Processes in Windows Task Manager...

While I would need a good amount of time to review this, it does appear something has (vastly) monkeyed with power management default settings, all the way down to tick timers. AC0, when did this start happening?
