SFC could not fix while trying to restore all original files.

While trying to restore all the original files using SFC,i just encountered this error: SFC /scannow Found but could not fix some Corrupt files. Im trying to restore all my default files from theme modifications. I restored already all the back up files that was used by the theme patcher all the .dll's and .cpl etc. Then i run SFC just to make sure everything was restored, then that error occurs. :sarc:

You can either run sfc a couple more times and if that doesnt help, a repair install. But a repair install is recommended only if there are functional problems.

Well, it sounds like a Windows Update has superseded one of those modified file, and now you have restored a version prior to what Windows believes it has, hence why it thinks that it is corrupt. That would be my first guess.

Also, another problem with themes is that changing permissions, and particularly ownership as required on files without specialist tools or knowledge leads to those files not to being protected by Windows Resource Protection.

If I were you, if you have a functional problem, follow Bill2's excellent advice above (Repair Install)

Otherwise, if you want me to tell you which files SFC thinks are corrupt, please copy the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder to your Desktop, right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder, and upload the new file which is created on your Desktop here.

Otherwise, take no further action

I have managed to extricate a PC or two from the throes of "corrupt file" hell, whereby especially Windows Updates were failing, by examining the CBS.log and clearing-out corruption. But it was not easy...

Oh it is possible, I have done it many a time (I used to do it on a regular basis for OPs - but now that I have to do quite a bit extra work in the Windows Update forum with Flavius, MowGreen, and Cluberti all gone - for the time being at least) I don't have the time, and I now only do it very rarely.
