Windows check disk thingy not working...

Whenever I reboot, my laptop tells me it needs to check my disk for errors.

Unfortunately, it keeps saying there was an error and it can't check the disk.

Says some change to my software might be the issue but this is off a fresh install. I tried to re-install, didn't help.

    Anyone else have this problem?

Try opening Properties=>Tools for the partition in Explorer. Click Check for Errors=>Check Now and make sure "automatically fix file system errors" is selected. Then it should tell you it has to schedule the error check for the next boot since it can't do it while windows is running. Select to schedule it. Restart.

MS has it set up so once the "dirty bit" for a partition is set, you cannot clear it from software(at least not any way I know of.) You have to run the error check and let it complete at boot. That should clear the "dirty bit" for the partition and it should boot clean from then on.

Don't check "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" or you'll be waiting a very long time for it to check every sector on the partition during the next boot.

If that doesn't fix it, then search "dirty bit" and "partition" and see if you get lucky.
