Need help getting programs to run in the background

Just had my motherboard switched out, and windows 7 home premium 64bit reinstalled as a clean install, where as before it was an upgrade from Vista home premium 64bit.

My problem is it's not performing as well with background tasks as it used to. When running world of warcraft for example, the preview image of the game doesn't appear in the window when I hover over the icon on the task bar. Also, I don't know any other way to describe it, but it seems to pause games that I'm currently tabbed out of, even if I'm playing with sound in the background.Even if It's a Facebook game, it'll stop running and pause until I tab back into it.

How can I fix this so that programs will run smoothly, regardless if I'm tabbed out of them or not?

Have you installed the "real" video drivers for your video card from the ATI or Nvidia website?

The defaults or even the ones from windows update are ususaly not as good as they are frequently stripped down quite a bit.

actually I think I solved this problem myself, and was about to delete this thread. The problem was that I was running the game in full screen mode instead of full screen windowed. That probably was what caused the interference. And yes, I do have the current nvidia drivers. It's 280.something or another.
