Windows 7: Random crashes, running Win7 HP x64.

Random crashes, running Win7 HP x64.

Hello everyone,
I've recently received a laptop which has Windows 7 preloaded.

About a week after starting to use it, I started experiencing random crashes while CPU intensive operations are occuring.

I don't even get a BSOD, the screen just goes black for about .5 of a second and then the entire computer just shuts off.
Furthermore, I've scanned for any malicious software, bad packets, etc etc. and those scans returned nothing.

If anyone is having the same problem, or has found out how to fix it, help would be great.

(Was going to post this under BSODS / Malfuctions, but then I realised you needed a crash log which I don't have because these crashes are just clean.)

Hello Phoenix76653 and welcome to Seven Forums.

First, it would help us if you could fill in your system specs.

When you say you recently received a laptop do you mean you got it used from someone else or did you buy it from a store? Might make a difference for warranty purposes.

What kind of CPU intensive operations are being performed? Gaming? CAD? Several open spreadsheets? It could make a difference on whether or not a piece of hardware is bad.

Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit. SP1.

Your problem may be caused by many things > RAM problems >graphics drivers > overclocking > heat issues > using more than one AntiVirus at the same time > etc etc.

* Have you any System Restore points created PRIOR to this happening?

Initial troubleshooting steps to try..

* Type "event viewer" in search (by start button) and look for errors that may show the cause of the problem.
Look for critical errors (they have red in the left column ).
Note critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.
Google for more information.

* Try a clean boot, or boot into safe mode.
Does the behavior persist?
