Pc just froze

1st time this has happened

what happened was i was dling hitmanprox64 on chrome using internet download manager
and once i pressed open everything just froze. I waited for like 3 mins and tried crtl-alt-del nothing worked. So i restarted and i dled another copy of hitmanpro and now everything seems to be good again..

also checked event viewer nothing too specific showing. if it matters i had steam and origin and avast running in background

anyidea what might have caused it?

I would consider doing a scan with
Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a free download that removes viruses and malware from your computer

Could be your system was just loaded down. Although it is pretty unusual to hard lock. If it happens again then post as it could be a sign of some hardware developing a problem. But I wouldn't panic over one fluke lockup.

edit: also it's not uncommon to get a fault if you run 2 av type programs simultaneously. It may be ok to scan while you are running a real time shield but if you run 2 there's a high probability of conflict.
