Higher CPU usage comparing to XP

I just installed the latest seven release...

I also installed the following softwares: Chrome browser and VLC.

I opened a movie with VLC and paused it. Chrome has couple of tabs open, google pages and this message board.

While my computer is IDLE, chrome is at constant 1-5%cpu usage. while VLC is at 1-3 cpu usage. Taskbar would go 1-2% CPU. In total I am getting average of: 8% CPU usage while Idle.

While writing this message, chrome CPU would go as high as 5-8%.

IN XP, while IDLE, it would never go higher than 2%. Usually it would stay at 0 and jump to 1% once in awhile (IN TOTAL).

My laptop gets hotter because of constant cpu usage aswell.

Is it supposed to be like this? I don't see any reason why Chrome would use so much CPU, or VLC. It's idle!!

Its not chrome nor Vlc. Its the way win 7 uses memory. Its designed to be that way. I have a e1405 and yes its cpu does run higher and hotter, but its the nature of the beast

It depends on what it does under load. whats the cpu/ram under 100%, how hot does it get under full load for how long. It all in how you use it

Is indexing going on? I always turn off Windows Search service since I rarely search my drives.
