    Massive HDD lag

    Hello.
Since i have some problems with my hdd I would like to ask you for some optimization advice.
Currently I am running Windows 7 Ultimate Sp1 64bit operating system with latest drivers (altough not latest BIOS). Sometimes my hdd lags very badly, by that, I mean it is overloading. It is very annoyning when you are trying to browse the web or do some multitasking work.
I have MSI fx600 laptop, it has core i5 460m, 4gb of ram, 5200rpm hitachi hdd. You might think that 5200rpm is the answer why it lags. Personally, i have seen other 5200rpm drives, even IDe drives does not lag as much as this one sometimes does.
Defragmentation helps a bit, but for a very short time.
If it is relevant, I should say that I only have one partition (I kind of like my pc to be this way). When I download something from utorrent at 8mB/s i have no problems what so ever (but I use ram to cach data).
Maybe you guys have any tips on optimizing hdd performance?

It sounds like disk thrashing problem. Common on systems with a lot of services and programs running in the background.
