Third party "snake oil" solutions are not needed for Windows 7 - In fact common consensus on this site and in the industry generally suggests that "Tweaking" win7 will actually have a detrimental effect on performance and reliability.

The self tuning nature of win7 has been developed by the people who know the system best, those who designed it, Microsoft ..... If they don't believe it needs tweaking then I would suggest that it doesn't, there are configuration tools available in the system itself and these should be all you ever need

I don't mess with Windows 7, never have done, never will. The system runs fine straight out of the box.

+1 ... I don't know of a single tweaking app that doesn't also cause problems. The few tweaks I do apply to my system I do "by hand" (editing registry etc.) and even then only after I'm convinced they really make a difference.

Also, many tweakers really only put already existing Windows settings into a single window for convenience (and then add a few troublemakers of their own)...

My experience with friends computers. 3rd party software does more harm than good. Always have to fix their stuff ups.

Just a thought: when I want to use my car, I walk up to it, open the door, get in, turn the ignition key and drive away.

I don't lay awake at night wondering how I can shave a couple of seconds of the startup routine so why don't we just accept how a computer starts up and leave it at that?

To use another analogy, it has been proposed to spend £billions on building a high-speed railway from London to Birmingham that will shave 15 minutes or so off the total journey time and cut a swathe through some of England's most picturesque countryside. Trouble is, the terminus will be a 15-minute walk from Birmingham's city centre so the time gained will be zilch.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. :)

I don't use 3rd party products either. There are 2 tricks known to work that I use
1). Install SSD and run OS from it
2). run msconfig and shut off everything at startup that I don't absolutely need.

Anything else is asking for trouble.

Have to agree with everyone on this. Win7 pretty much doesn't need "tweaking" as xp and even Vista did. The only tweak's I do are cosmetic in nature i.e. start up screen, start orb etc., and my system is fast and reliable.
